HITACHI OPENS ENGINEER TRAINING CENTER IN THAILAND
Hitachi, Ltd. and Hitachi Building Systems Co., Ltd. in January opened their Asia Training Center, a facility that includes classroom, virtual and hands-on training, in Chonburi Province, Thailand. It is expected to support the delivery of approximately 5,000 units — including machine-room-less elevators Hitachi launched in the region in September 2016 — each year throughout Asia. The seven-story, 3,785-m2 complex has six elevator shafts, two escalator installation areas, a safety training room and two additional classrooms. It is geared toward developing mid-level engineers in Asian countries to ensure higher quality and safety, and is part of a revised training structure that involves the center working with Hitachi's Human Resources Development Center to foster advanced training.
CAPE TOWN’S TALLEST ON TRACK
A 44-story, 486-ft.-tall mixed-use tower that will be the tallest in Cape Town, South Africa, is scheduled to start construction in April and be finished within two and half years, Africa Investor reports. It is being developed by Land Equity Group and FWJK, which is also the architect. Located at the corner of Adderley and Strand streets, Zero2ONE, also known as Exchange Place, is set to have more than 600 apartments, ample parking, 5,000 sq. ft. of retail, a restaurant and 360˚ viewing deck. The project is part of what Stuart Chait of Land Equity Group describes as an "aggressive development cycle" that will involve US$3 billion worth of projects in Sub-Saharan and South Africa.
