KONE INDIA DIRECTOR: HOME ELEVATORS DRIVING GROWTH
Despite a sluggish construction market in India, its elevator industry is growing, thanks to strong sales of home elevators to consumers with high incomes, KONE India Managing Director Amit Gossain said, Web India 123 reports. Overly complicated public policy is to blame for the sluggish construction market, he continued. Still, he said, annual demand is at approximately 50,000 units, and the market has been growing at a pace of 6-7% over the past several years. KONE holds approximately 20% of the Indian market, employs approximately 4,000 and is building a second manufacturing facility in Chennai.
72-STORY TOWERS PROPOSED ON TORONTO’S YONGE STREET
Toronto's main thoroughfare, Yonge Street, continues to bustle as Northam Realty seeks rezoning for construction of a pair of 72-story, 233-m-tall residential towers at the northeast corner of Yonge and Carlton streets, Urban Toronto reports. Designed by IBI Group Architects, the silvery, modern structures would consist of a seven-story podium topped by an additional 65 stories housing approximately 1,100 residential units. The site is above a subway station and is currently home to a mid-century modern office building, which would be demolished. If they are built, the towers would join several other high rises ranging from 60 to 80 stories along Yonge.
CEA TO HOST DINNER/CHICAGO CODE UPDATE
The Chicago Elevator Association (CEA) plans to host a dinner featuring guest speaker Joe Donnelly of Donnelly & Associates, Inc., who will give an update on Chicago code, on November 3 at The Clubhouse, 298 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, Illinois.
