KONE INDIA LAUNCHES SMART ELEVATOR “HACKATHON”
KONE India, in partnership with IBM and HackerEarth, has launched an elevator “hackathon,” in which developers are invited to come up with digitally innovative ideas to, in this case, enhance the elevator-user experience. The hackathon is being powered by IBM Watson’s Internet of Things platform on IBM’s BlueMix cloud. More than 2,300 people from across India registered, and the top 60 shortlisted teams presented their ideas in Bengaluru and Chennai. On March 4, the top 15 teams are scheduled to demonstrate the integration of their prototypes at KONE’s R&D center in Chennai, with the winning team awarded a cash prize of US$5,961 and a chance to further developer its idea at KONE’s R&D center in Finland.
RESIDENTIAL TOWER SHIMMERS OVER BOSTON’S FENWAY PARK
Distinguishing features of the 30-story Pierce Boston residential tower, overlooking the city's Fenway Park baseball stadium, are starting to appear, SkyRise Cities reports. Arquitectonica is behind the slender, angular design, which features shimmery blue and metal elements. Samuels & Associates is the developer of the project, set to include approximately 350 units, along with a host of resident amenities and 20,000 sq. ft. of retail. Delivery is anticipated in 2018.
PLAN FOR TRIO OF TORONTO TOWERS ADVANCES
Lanterra Developments' scaled-back plan for a trio of towers in downtown Toronto between St. Patrick and Simcoe streets has, for the most part, won Planning Review Panel approval, UrbanToronto reports. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, Artists' Alley now has a gross floor area (GFA) reduced by 21% to 66.959 m2. Building 1, the tallest, was reduced from 54 stories and 634 residential units to 39 stories and 393 residential units. Building 2 increased from 24 stories and 150 units to 36 stories and 310 units. Building 3 remained the same at 17 stories, but was reconfigured to house 210, rather than 345, residential units. The new plan includes a 1,000-m2 public park. While approving of the revised density, the Panel questioned the suitability of ground-level retail and configuration of some of the residential units.
