KONE TO OUTFIT DUBAI MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT
KONE has won an order to supply 32 elevators and four escalators to One Central in Dubai, a multiple-building mixed-use complex being developed by Dubai World Trade Centre on 104 ha in the central business district. Al Futtaim Carillion is the main contractor, and Hopkins is the architect. The order includes 22 MiniSpaceTM and 10 MonoSpace® elevators and the E-Link remote-monitoring system, which will be used in towers ranging in height from 12- to 88-m. One Central will consist of 300,000 m2 of office space designed to the highest environmental standards as well as stores, hotels, residences and amenities. Completion is anticipated in 2017.
SAN DIEGO REDEVELOPMENT IN EARLY STAGES
A 480-ft.-tall observation tower is included in plans for “Seaport San Diego,” a US$1.2-billion venture to be built over the next decade to replace Seaport Village, The San Diego Union Tribune reported. A consortium of developers from across the country, operating as "1HWY1," is to construct 390,000 sq. ft. for shops and restaurants; 19,000 sq. ft. of office space for marine-oriented businesses; a 65,000-sq.-ft. maritime-oriented educational institute; and a tuna harbor large enough to accommodate 51 commercial fishing slips, 82 recreational boat slips and 24 mega-yacht slips. Construction is planned for 2020 and to be completed in phases between 2022 and 2025. Major portions could be ready for the 2024 Olympics if they are held in Los Angeles. However, the next step for the project is to win approval from the California Coastal Commission.
ELEVATORS IN STORE FOR MONTREAL METRO STATION
Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT) has set aside CAD$9.5 million (US$7 million) for a trio of elevators to provide access between the street and the Bonaventure Station turnstiles in the Montreal Metro, thanks to AMT and Société de Transport de Montréal resolving property-ownership issues, the Montreal Gazette reports. The move, along with improvements such as a CAD$75-million (US$56-million) pedestrian tunnel between the Vendome station and a new superhospital, is aimed at alleviating frustration expressed by critics of the system’s lack of accessibility, particularly for people with disabilities.
