LAS VEGAS PROJECT WITH PEDESTRIAN ESCALATORS TO START
Construction of a new north pedestrian bridge between the MGM Grand and New York New York resorts on the Las Vegas Strip that includes escalators is scheduled to start on April 3, ABC 13 Action News reports. Part of the Tropicana Escalator Project at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard that includes 16 escalators, upgrades to elevator machine rooms and new pedestrian bridges, the work requires bridges to be partially or completely shut down through at least September. Otis is providing the units for the overall US$30-million project.
WMATA ESCALATOR REPLACEMENT IS A WRAP
A US$8-million project to replace five escalators that had been in service for more than 30 years at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Bethesda station is a wrap, Bethesda Patch reports, enhancing efficiency and safety for the nearly 11,000 passengers who use the station each weekday. KONE embarked on the project in October 2014, replacing the units one at a time and often working at night. The job included a trio of long escalators that descend approximately 10 stories from the street to the station’s mezzanine.

U.S. HOTELS COMING TO DUBAI BEACHFRONT
Dubai-based Wasl Hospitality, part of Wasl Asset Management Group, is joining with Las Vegas-based MGM Resort International to bring MGM and Bellagio hotels to Dubai for the first time, Hotelier Middle East reports. Scheduled to open in 2021, the beachfront development will take shape on 26 acres, the longest stretch of waterfront ever developed in Dubai, near the Burj Al Arab. It will include 1,000 hotel rooms, 10 villas and a diving club. Construction, including site preparation, is expected to take close to four years.
