Otis UK & Ireland won a contract from luxury developers The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd. to supply and install a suite of high-end, bespoke Gen2® Stream elevators within The Peninsula London complex on Hyde Park Corner. Otis will provide 27 passenger and 10 platform elevators, saying they will include "high-quality finishes and variable-geometry cars to create a unique vertical-transportation experience inside the hotel." Otis’ factory in Gien, France, is supplying them. Each machine-room-less Gen2 Stream unit can carry 26 people and travel at a top speed of 1.75 mps. Designed by Hopkins Architects, The Peninsula London is a 190-room hotel including 24-28 residential apartments. It is set to open in 2021.
NEW DETAILS OF BROOKLYN GROVE TOWER REVEALED
Developers of the under-construction Brooklyn Grove residential tower in downtown Brooklyn, New York, have released new renderings, New York YIMBY reports. The 27-story, 184-unit condominium building is being designed by a collaboration between ODA Architecture and Stephen B. Jacobs Group. Residents will enjoy a number of amenities, such as aquatic, fitness and entertainment areas, a rooftop deck, a pet spa and a children's playroom. Developers Adam America Real Estate, Slate Property Group and Vanke Co. had originally foreseen a 33-story, 150-unit building when they closed on the site in 2015. Prices for individual units will range from US$590,000 to US$2.5 million. Completion is expected in 2019.
NEW TALLEST TOWER PLANNED FOR SPOKANE, WASHINGTON
Plans for a 31-story mixed-use tower in Spokane, Washington, have been filed with city officials, The Spokesman-Review reports. The 354-ft.-tall tower, called Riverside Station, would sit at the entrance to the University District in downtown Spokane and become the city's tallest, surpassing the 20-story, 288-ft.-tall Bank of America Financial Center. Its 200,000 sq. ft. would mostly hold apartments, but floors 19-22 would hold office space. The design for the US$65-million tower would include setback levels at the eighth and 23rd floors, and includes an "architectural spire and clock" at the top level. The pre-development application anticipates construction beginning in August.
DELAYED ESCALATOR WORK BEGINS AT INDIAN RAIL JUNCTION
A long-delayed project to install escalators at the Erode Railway Junction in Erode, India, has begun, The Hindu reports. The junction is among the busiest rail stops in the region, but platform access has been limited to a steep stairway, which prompted strong demand for escalators from passengers. Railways that use the junction announced a plan to add escalators in January 2015, with completion expected by December 2015, but the work was delayed by several factors. The source said protests by "many" organizations led to the problems being worked out, with the project "expected to be completed soon."
