FIVE HIGH RISES ENVISIONED IN OTTAWA’S LEBRETON FLATS
The latest incarnation of a plan dating back more than 10 years has Claridge Homes proposing three 25-story buildings, and one 30- and one 55-story building in the neglected LeBreton Flats neighborhood of Ottawa along Booth Street, SkyRise Cities reports. Located west of downtown on the riverfront, the buildings would contain approximately 1,650 market-rate and "affordable" residential units with retail and other services at their bases. A light rail transit station is being planned nearby. Expected to include significant public amenities such as bike and walking trails and a large park, the project is expected to take at least 10 years to unfold.
NYC WALDORF ELEVATOR LOBBY DEEMED HISTORIC LANDMARK
Waldorf Astoria® New York's west elevator lobby, including elevator doors and grilles, is now protected as a New York City (NYC) landmark, New York YIMBY reportS. NYC's Landmarks Preservation Commission makes the move as Chinese developer Anbang Insurance Group embarks on a multiyear renovation/condominium conversion of the property, occupying an entire block bound by Park Avenue, East 50th Street, Lexington Avenue and East 49th Street. Anbang applauded the move, describing the Waldorf, now part of the Hilton portfolio, as an "iconic hotel with unparalleled history and beautiful, irreplaceable features." Designed by Schultze and Weaver, the 625-ft.-tall 44-story Art Deco building opened in 1931.
