OSHA: REMOTE CAMERAS COULD ENHANCE JOBSITE SAFETY
OSHA's Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs, released in fall 2016, recommends measures such as the use of remote cameras on heavy equipment such as cranes to monitor activity and, in turn, enhance workplace safety. Chris Machut of Netarus, a company that offers the HoistCamTM remote-camera system, says that, although he knows of no elevator companies that are implementing the technology yet, it could be useful in that it would "allow the crane operator to see inside an elevator shaft during construction." Netarus' systems are used all over the country, particularly in high-rise construction.
HOTEL IN THE WORKS FOR NYC’S MIDTOWN SOUTH
A 27-story, 323-ft.-tall hotel with approximately 300 rooms is in the works at 30 West 39th Street in New York City’s (NYC) Midtown South, New York YIMBY reports. Designed by NYC hotel architect Nobutaka Ashihara, the structure would span 133,523 sq. ft. and have a restaurant and outdoor bar on the lower floors. Demolition permits for the site’s existing four-story building were filed in 2016. Fortuna Realty Group is the developer.
