PROPOSED ELEVATOR LAW PROMPTS NEEA REPORT IN ONTARIO
A controversial proposed law in Ontario, Canada, the Reliable Elevators Act, prompted the National Elevator and Escalator Association (NEEA) to release a report recommending strategies to increase elevator reliability and availability. NEEA argues the act, which would amend the Consumer Protection Act of 2002 to require elevator contractors to complete repairs in a narrow timeframe regardless of contractual agreement, could jeopardize the safety of mechanics and the riding public, raise maintenance fees and decrease competition in the market. The report recommends creating a standard that aligns vertical-transportation systems with a building's anticipated occupancy, eliminates outdated equipment and examines the role of power failures and brownouts in outages and entrapments.

Prior to Canton, Rinehart spent 19 years at Tyler Elevator Products in various positions, including engineering manager and director of product management. Ashur Kanon, president of Nidec's elevator business division, says Rinehart's background and experience position him well to lead Canton.

FOUNDATION WORK COMPLETE FOR MIDTOWN MANHATTAN TOWER
Foundation work for a 51-story, 756-ft.-tall condominium tower at 15 East 30th Street in the Midtown South part of Manhattan, New York, is complete, meaning the Handel Architects-designed structure will soon rise, New York YIMBY reports. Developed by Fosun Group and JD Carlisle, the structure will contain approximately 180 residential units and ground-level retail within its 300,000 sq. ft. A rendering shows a slim, glassy structure with an angled crown. Completion is anticipated by the end of 2019.
