THYSSENKRUPP ANNOUNCES NEW HQ, TEST TOWER IN ATLANTA
thyssenkrupp Elevator Americas has announced a new headquarters and 420-ft.-tall test tower, the tallest of its kind in the U.S. and one of the tallest in the world, in Atlanta near SunTrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. Representing a US$200-million investment and bringing more than 900 employees to the city, most of whom will be transferring from other parts of country, the Innovation Complex will include the Gensler-designed test tower, a new corporate headquarters and business-operations building, and an existing building that will be outfitted for thyssenkrupp’s needs. Housing 18 shafts, the tower will test the MULTI and high-capacity, two-cabin TWIN elevator systems. Being built in collaboration with the Braves Development Co., the complex is approximately 13 mi. north of downtown Atlanta and is scheduled for completion by early 2022. IN MEMORIAM: DARYL D. ANDERSON
Daryl D. Anderson, recently retired CEO of HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc., of Laguna Hills, California, passed away in July at age 69. Anderson served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 until 1972. He began his elevator career in 1973 with a major manufacturing company, holding positions that included engineering, estimating and sales through 1979. From 1979 until 1981, Anderson served as an in-house elevator consultant for architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill. In 1981, he joined Hesselberg, Keesee & Associates, Inc., holding various positions. He founded HKA Elevator Consulting in 1999. The company stated, "The HKA family has lost a great friend and colleague. He will be missed by all. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family." Anderson is survived by his children, Genette and Bryan. Condolences may be sent to his home at 3928 Windansea Street, Las Vegas, Nevada 89147.
IN MEMORIAM: JOHN DEVER
John Dever, cofounder and sales manager at ESR Elevator, Inc., of San Francisco, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in June. Dever worked in the industry for nearly 30 years. Prior to co-founding ESR, Dever was sales manager at Empire Elevator Co., credited with being a central figure in the company's success. He also held positions with firms that included Syska Hennessy Group, Amtech Elevator, Armor Elevator and U.S. Elevator. Dever studied Electronics at the University of Marin. He is survived by his wife, Chrissie, and daughters, Noelle and Sophie. On the GoFundMe page set up to help Dever's family, colleague Richard Blaska said, "I've not known a kinder, more gentle or better man." A celebration of Dever's life is planned for August 19 at the Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross, California.
MARINE INNOVATIONS WELCOMES FOUR NEW DEALERS
Frazee, Minnesota-based tram and inclined-lift manufacturer Marine Innovations, Inc., has added four new dealers. They are: in Maine, McEnroe Builders of Harbor; in California, Accessible Construction of Inglewood; in North Carolina, Johnston Welding Service of Brevard; and in Idaho, North Idaho Marine of Alene. The new dealers plan to offer Marine Innovations products to address customers' accessibility needs, including assisting them in connecting their homes to their waterfronts.
