OTIS CHINA WINS MAJOR AIRPORT ORDER
Otis Elevator (China) Co. has been selected to supply 279 escalators and moving walks to what will be the world's largest satellite airport terminal being built at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the main international airport for Shanghai. Once complete in 2019, it will increase the airport's annual handling capacity by 20 million, to 80 million passengers. The expansion covers 622,000 m2 and consists of two linked halls. Otis China President Perry Zheng described the company as an industry leader in the infrastructure segment in China, with equipment in many airports and public-transit systems.
 
THYSSENKRUPP RECEIVES TOP HONOR FOR MULTI
thyssenkrupp received the top Gold honor in the Transportation & Logistics category for MULTI at the2017 Edison Awards in New York City. The awards recognize excellence in new product and service development, design, marketing and innovation each year. Utilizing linear-motor technology, thyssenkrupp describes MULTI as "one of the most significant innovations in urban mobility that breaks the tradition of rope-driven elevators, opening the door to design possibilities in all directions." Award nominees were judged by a panel of more than 3,000 experts, and winners included notable breakthroughs such as edible six-pack rings (for consumption by animals).
 
KONE INKS DEAL WITH SRI LANKAN DISTRIBUTOR
KONE has entered into a distribution agreement with Scan Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd., based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to provide elevators, escalators, maintenance and modernization services throughout Sri Lanka. Amit Gossain, managing director of KONE Elevator India, said growth of Sri Lanka's tourism industry makes him optimistic, as it will call for better infrastructure and spur the construction industry. Scan has been in business for approximately 10 years, and many of its technicians were trained in places like China, Malaysia and South Korea. Gossain said KONE "sees good potential for our brand in this market, as customers like to have a premium brand such as KONE."
