AL APPOINTS WILLIAMSON CONSTRUCTION DIRECTOR
After serving as Operations Development manager at London-based Amalgamated Lifts (AL) since 2014 and upon the retirement of founding Director Peter Edler, Daniel Williamson has been named construction director. He joins Simon Smith and John Brand on the board and will lead the New Installations and Major Works departments. Williamson was formerly Major Modernization Sales manager at Schindler and commercial director at Global Lift Equipment. He holds a degree in International Business, French and Spanish from Aston Business School in Birmingham, U.K.
INDIAN RAIL STATION RECEIVES ESCALATORS
Two escalators at Platform 1 of the railway station in Mysore, India, are expected to be inaugurated within the month, The Hindu reports. The escalators are intended to encourage use of a foot overbridge and reduce the dangerous practice of jaywalking. The upgrades at the southwestern Indian station are among improvements throughout the division aimed at enhancing access, particularly for elderly and disabled passengers.
TORONTO AIRPORT SUED OVER ACCESSIBILITY
Pearson International Airport in Toronto, which newKerala.com calls "the busiest in Canada," is facing at least eight lawsuits for a death and injuries, allegedly resulting from problems with wheelchair services. The defendants include operator Greater Toronto Airports Authority and various airlines and contracted companies since 2011. The suit alleges wheelchair shortages, staff errors, poor training and other types of negligence, which it said led to the aforementioned incidents. According to the source, the airport “receives approximately 80,000 requests for wheelchair assistance per month, more than most other major hub airports in North America.”
