US$13.8 MILLION NEEDED FOR WMATA STATION ELEVATORS
The state of Maryland wants Montgomery County to provide an additional US$13.8 million to outfit the Bethesda Metro station, part of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) system, with elevators connecting the station with the new Purple Line, The Washington Post reports. The cost of the elevator portion of the project, part of a US$5.6-billion state contract, has doubled. If the elevators are not provided, WMATA passengers would have to walk several blocks to make their connections. County officials are considering the request.
