WMATA ESCALATOR WORK TO SPAN 45 WEEKS AT STATION
Work to replace a pair of escalators at the Georgia Avenue/Petworth station of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in Washington, D.C., is projected to start in March and take approximately 45 weeks, Petworth News reports. Similar escalator replacements have taken considerably less time. WMATA attributed the amount of time set aside to the fact that trusses and beams must be replaced and that replacement parts for the outdated units are hard to find. KONE is performing the work as part of a larger modernization job projected to last through 2020.
