HYUNDAI ELEVATOR REFLECTS ON 2017 GROWTH, ACHIEVEMENTS
South Korea’s Hyundai Elevator reflected on its 2017 growth & achievements in its December newsletter, including that it installed more than 2,000 elevators in a single month, in June, for the first time in company history, launched its new human-resources automatic processing system, Elis, at corporate HQ early this month & became the first elevator business to win the Gold iF Design Award for ANYVATER. Hyundai Elevator noted its first-half revenue increased more than 20% and its profit nearly 17% over the same time period in the previous year.
ROSEMOR BREAKING INTO NEW MARKETS
U.K.-based Rosemor International reported it is breaking into new markets including China, India, Iran and Romania. Rosemor has been directly supplying escalator-cleaning machines to U.S. customers for more than 17 years, and uses dealers to supply to customers worldwide. The machines are mainly used in department stores, malls, metro stations, airports and stadiums. The company stated it is “very excited for 2018 and what new business it may entail."
1865 BROADWAY TOWER TOPS OUT
A residential tower at 1865 Broadway on New York City's (NYC) Upper West Side has topped out, New York YIMBY reports. The 33-story, 416-ft.-tall building designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will offer 236,532 sq. ft. of residential space spread across 160 units, for an average of 1,500 sq. ft. each. Lower floors will house 34,000 sq. ft. of retail space. The source noted that developer AvalonBay normally does rentals, but said this project will probably include rental units and upper-floor condominiums. TEI Group is providing three overhead gearless passenger elevators and two hydraulic elevators for the project. Completion is expected by the end of 2018.
WORKER RESCUED FROM ELEVATOR HOISTWAY
The Wilmington, Delaware, Fire Department was called to rescue a worker who was trapped in an elevator hoistway at the DuPont Building on December 19, First State Update reported. Fire crews found the worker on the 1st floor inside the hoistway with “a hand trapped by steel weights.” He was freed within about 15 min. and taken to a nearby hospital. Neither the cause of the accident nor the extent of the worker's injuries were immediately released.
CONTRACTOR CHOSEN FOR MALAYSIA'S SKYWHEEL PROJECT
Developer M101 Holdings has named China Railway Construction Corp. Malaysia (CRCC) as the main contractor for the M101 Skywheel project, a mixed-use high-rise building in Kuala Lumpur that will include a Ferris wheel mounted on its 53rd-floor rooftop, multiple outlets, including the Straits Times, are reporting. According to property management company KLCC Properties, the MYR2.2-billion (US$540-million) building, designed by Studio FA Porsche, will include residences and a hotel. A shopping mall will be situated on the 48th floor, making it the highest retail complex in Malaysia. The Ferris wheel sits between 2 towers that rise to a full height of 78 stories. Construction is targeted for completion in 2022.
DEVELOPER PLANS MIXED-USE TOWER IN TORONTO
QuadReal has filed a zoning application in hopes of building a 64-story, mixed-use tower in Toronto, the website UrbanToronto.ca reports. The structure would be 298 m tall and cover a gross floor area of 180,259 m2. It would be built on the existing Commerce Court site, and require the demolition of the Commerce Court South and East buildings. The project would include parking spaces for 600 cars, plus 722 bicycle spaces. Includes addition to the Hotel Victoria, constructed in 1909.
