Description

I selected the piece by @vgmrmojo contributed to the "Disquiet Junto 0170 Glitch In The Night" project as, at the time, it had the fewest listens of the project. A shame because it's a beautiful continuation of the previous work on the "Disquiet Junto 0160 One Minute Past Midnight" project. I also relate to several themes in these works. First, snow and cold are my natural surroundings for much of the year here in Michigan. Second, the material stems from field recording which I avidly participate in. Third, do you even modular?! ;-) vgmrmojo does, and so do I! Fourth, the use of Audacity puts us in the same family!

So, I was inspired to use a process I refer to as "Field Recoding" where I alter field recordings in some way with a deliberate compositional form. I left my modular out of this process and instead repurposed one of my field recordings which utilized coil recordings to pick up normally unheard electromagnetic sounds generated by my Yamaha AW4416 hard disk recorder.

My steps in this composition:

1-open both recordings in Audacity
2-separate the two stereo tracks into four mono tracks panned hard left and hard right
3-create a complete fade out of my field recording starting at the very beginning of the track and progressively lowering in amplitude over the course of the minute. I did this to allow the natural breath in vgmrmojo's track to have its own space
4-generated a tremolo effect on each of the halves of my recording that are 180 degrees out of phase from each other creating an illusion of movement in the stereo field
5-combined all tracks into a new stereo track
6-generated a slow random pan to shift sounds in the final stereo mix
