The video/animation is a collaborative work between myself and Anne Zwiener. The germ of this idea sprouted during our time together at the Sachaqa Centro De Arte in San Roque Peru:

I captured the raindrops falling from the trees outside a bodega across the road from the Iquitos airport and thought they were beautiful. During my time in Iquitos, I thought a lot about water and how we rely on it to live. I also thought about all the creatures that literally live in water. Water makes up their world in the same way that water makes up our very bodies. As I sat drinking tea one night, the overhead lights caught the ripples in my cup and reflected light back at me as moving shapes. They soon coalesced into fish, crustaceans, octopi, and turtles. All swimming around inside my cup. I later shared this vision with Anne when I arrived in San Roque. She suggested that we collaborate to bring it to life. Her animation beautifully captures the sensation that I experienced while musing over my cup of life.
