I used a multi-mic setup while living in Peru last year. The recordings that I captured in and around San Roque and the Rio Cumbazza on April 11 2015 fit this Junto prompt perfectly for me. The three recordings heard (in order of appearance in the mix) are:
-A night recording from my stereo DPA 4060 pair on the bamboo balcony of my mountain hut about a mile from the river
-A Telinga parabolic dish and MKH 20 recording of locals playing in the waterfall which came off the mountain I stayed on and dropped a bit more than 100 feet into the Rio Cumbaza
-A stereo pair of JrF hydrophones under the water, just around the bend from the waterfall, and headed downstream back towards town
The parabolic dish and hydrophone recordings were taken concurrently about 20 feet apart on the river bank. The 4060 recording of the night sounds and dogs was taken back at my place about 8 hours after a full day of recording by the river. The dogs were mad at something in the jungle and they were keeping me awake so I decided to record them.
I took 3:33 from each of the three recordings and arranged them in Reaper. For each recording, I re-mic'd the recording using Oceanway Studio from UA. This let me place naturally occurring acoustics gathered in the field, into a controlled studio space environment. I then faded in and out the three recordings at specific points related to sound events in each, building to a bit of a climax with the boys playing in the cold water of the falls, and the dogs on high alert. Honestly, I like the untouched field recordings a bit better than this resultant collage, but this was an interesting and fun experiment.
