Spiritual Surrender - Part 4
“Rocket Science”
With Rabbi Ari Sollish
Recorded live at The Torah Center ATL on Sunday, November 5, 2023

One of the big challenges rocket scientists faced in launching a spacecraft is the issue of friction -- or, more precisely, the complete lack of friction in outer space.

See, in our atmosphere, all a rocket has to do to gain propulsion is to push against another body that provides resistance. That's true of the solid surface of the earth, as well as of our atmospheric pressure -- there's what to push against.

But what happens when the rocket breaks free of our atmosphere and enters outer space, which is nearly a pure vacuum? When the air around the rocket has no pressure of its own, what exactly do you push against? And if you can't push against anything, how do you move forward?

The secret, scientists discovered, was hiding in plain sight: in Newton’s third law of motion. Yes, the idea that for every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction changed everything. But here's the kicker: it not only paved the way for space travel, it also opens an entirely new pathway in our personal and spiritual growth.

In this out of this world session of Kabbalah Café we explore galaxies far, far away, and learn powerful life lessons from the physics that get us there.
