Whispers of Creation - Part 10
"The Ladder of Prayer"
With Rabbi Ari Sollish
(Recorded live at The Torah Center ATL on December 4, 2022)
3600 years ago, a man had a dream. In this dream he saw a four-runged ladder, planted firmly on the ground, extending to the heavens. And on the ladder were angels, ascending and descending.
The man was no ordinary man, and the dream was no ordinary dream. The man's name was Jacob, and this dream has become something legendary in Judaism.
See, the mystics understand this dream to be a vision of prayer. When we pray, our words ascend up the "ladder," toward heaven, and elicit the blessings we ask for (which descend down the "ladder"). And just as Jacob's Ladder contained four rungs, our prayer is likewise structured into a deliberate, four-step program of heightened spiritual consciousness.
