Description

A Clare fishing representative claims inshore fishing is continuing to negatively affect the livelihoods of those in coastal communities.

Over 100 people attended a recent protest in Bantry calling for an end to the "indiscriminate harvesting" of sprat fish in inshore waters.

Measures are being sought amid fears of overfishing by industrial trawlers, with a ban on inshore trawling being proposed by some.

Carrigaholt-based Chairperson of the Irish Charter Skippers Assocation, Luke Aston, says the practice is rife right along the West Coast.
