River was written and recorded by Joni Mitchell for her album Blue. I think Court and Spark is an even better album, but that's splitting hairs. River is probably a Christmas song. As a singer, composer, performer, lyricist, Joni is without peers. I adore her work; I'm sorry I'll never have a fraction of her good taste.
