Tucked up in the north-west corner of mainland Europe, sharing borders with Latvia, Russia & The freezing Baltic Sea, Estonia is a country known for historic cities, beautiful natural environments, and incredible forward-thinking drum & bass. Alright we might have been exaggerating with that last one, but after this release you never know..
The latest edition of our global drum & bass series sees us aim our sights on Estonia, a country you nearly definitely can’t point to on a map unless you’ve been there already. But despite it’s small land-mass, we are happy to announce it has a thriving scene producing some top draw music. For this release we enlisted the help of Mean Teeth to hook us up with some of the most exciting producers their country has to offer.
On the Estonian Connection you’ll hear from a cohort of sick Estonian producers, and a wide variety of sounds, mainly focused around the dark & heavy end of the spectrum. These ten tracks offer a glimpse into the scene over there; from AJ Mutated’s ‘Catastrafox’, a driving, bass-heavy slice of neuro-tech or Mean Teeth’s offering ‘Fear Is In You’, a big ol’ boom-bap neurofunk cut, all the way to Majestim’s dark liquid roller ‘Tantrum’. There’s a lot of different sounds and shapes inside, including some moody half-time courtesy of Cald, all produced to an extremely high quality.
Continuing the tradition, we’re heading out to celebrate this release with a show in Tartu on the 15th March. Hopefully we’ll be coming away with some more Estonian mates, some more Estonian tunes, and probably a gnarly hangover; another successful mission!
