AUSPICIOUS PLASTIC is a podcast about precious objects and the stories behind them.
At the very start of the 2017 Berlin summer I had the good fortune to make the acquaintance of Melbourne musician, DANNY WALSH. A mutual friend, photographer Kate Seabrook, introduced us: she'd photographed Danny and partner Emma at their Melbourne home for her blog, "Housepeeking". Filled with 1970s burnt-orange ceramics and vintage homewares, she figured Danny might have a precious object or two to tell me about while he was in Berlin. She was right: Danny's hat, pictured (a brown, tweed, pin-striped "Cabbie" or "Newsboy" cap) has been a fixture on his head since he bought it in Hamburg in 2004. It's brought him lots of good luck too, as he reveals on this episode of Auspicious Plastic...
