Love often sits on a fence,
in this Humpty-Dumpty world,
leaning towards falling for another,
or simply tumbling into the pain
of loneliness as your heart collapses,
Like a balloon deflating into a
shriveled, empty mass.
I was that dizzy,.....
top of the world guy,
when she first breathed hello,
that was tinged with a smile,
much brighter then a horizontal
fingernail moon.
fingernail moon.
Kisses like white chocolate
melted on my lips,
nothing sweeter was ever known.
We danced through each day
and snuggled each nights,
and our passion was siamese
till one who was intent on
disrupting my gravity
pushed hard at separating me
from the wonder of her eyes.
from the wandering of her eyes.
He swept her off her feet,
offering her material things
I was unable to give
till she was caught up in the
whirl of tickets, fine dining,
fancy cars, and money talking.
When love becomes
abandoned for greed,
it takes on a cheap sadness,
and I was left by the
other side of the wall
that she'd erected to shield herself
from the pain of my eyes.
the pain in my eyes.
and now,,,,,,,
somewhere way back in time
there lie the pieces
of just the shell of what was.
But like Humptey-Dumpty
I had to rise
from the puddles that had
long since dried,
both of tears
and of the essence
of a perfect love
that was broken,
but where I had taken
my fall from love
there lies a sunny-side up
version of what
always will forever
be the remnants
of my long ago love
and my long ago mourn
over someone I used to know.
