Description

Each of them came home to stay
through out most of my life
from some distant place
with tears on each face
of their children and their wives
with no joy on their arrival
just great sorrow and denials
on the faces of their Moms and Dads
who had suddenly lost all they had
In a sacrifice to Freedom
leaving all their loved ones needing
some closure to each tragedy
with pain beyond imagining
in one final act of traveling
On a journey all alone
as they each came on home….
as they each came on home

There were no hugs or kisses
and no plans to celebrate
only family and friends gathering
in a reunion that was staggering
in a far too often happening
each arrival came with grief
to which there was no damned relief.

Each one dressed up in a uniform
they all lay beneath a flag
some of them would
not be seen again
sealed up tight inside in a body bag….
all of them became most precious then
some women and a lot more men
their tallies became staggering
as each one met their end.

I remember even as a child
Just a few of them broadcast
from some airport I had never been
as those few came home at last
and so many names
where sadly etched
across memorials
that would stretch
through out each town
where they were raised
and on tombstones
where each one was lain
to mark each hero who was slain.

and I find myself wishing
that maybe someday
all these tragic arrivals
would fade away
in a world where war
would no longer prey
on our finest of youth
that we send away
and that peace at last
would come to stay
all over the world
and end these days
where somber families
are left bathed
in sorrowful tears
for loved one’s slain
that for decades now
have been replayed
in airports all around the earth
when soldier return to
the place of their birth
only to lie beneath the dirt
nothing written can express that hurt
nothing sung or played
can ease the curse
of the sad arrival of
one dearly departed
leaving all of their loved
one’s brokenhearted
Dear God give men
the wisdom to…..
find ways more diplomatic
then sending young
souls off to die
and then sending them
back to their families cries
In arrivals that offer
nothing more
then just the remains
from another war.
Just the remains
from just another war…..

Godspeed to all who are fighting
in all countries all over the world
May you be home soon......
