Reflections Yet To Come

When I was a child I used to lie
beneath our Christmas tree,
Staring into it’s largest,
silver ornaments at a mini-me,
That skewed the reflections
of the world I knew
It even skewed my face,
Like some magic place,
I could visit during the holidays,
Filled with wonder temporarily….

As I grow older, I’d still
lie beneath our lovely
Christmas tree,
But I’d gained the knowledge
that a shiny sphere
has the propensity
to change my face in
the curve of its mirror
distorting my reality,
nothing magical at all you see,
but the beauty of it called to me…..
it called to me........

Then adulthood came
and left me no time to lie
beneath my Christmas tree,
my view of the world
was far more skewed
then any ornament
could ever be,
all that peace
on earth I knew
when I was young,
had been tainted by truths
that left the magic undone,
it was a tragic place,
etched in the lines
upon my face…..

Innocence is a place
full of sugarplum dreams
Lost in the distant past,
Much like each Christmas tree,
that slowly fades and dies
on the curbs where they’re cast

Memories are reflections
that become distorted
by realities…..
yet each Christmas
we celebrate with
hope filled eyes,
that the new year
will bring us peace.

Someday my weary soul
will escape the toll
that my life inflicts on me,
flying off to a place,
beyond the human race
where I’ll look back
and I will see,......

A huge green and blue
lovely ornament
reflecting all
my memories,
as I sail from its face
to a magical place
full of peace eternally,
where all my
dreams set free
will be reality.....
in ways far more heavenly
in ways more heavenly……..
