Description

I have chased
and touched
the hems of fame
I’ve even snagged
its slippery coat tails,
like a burr on
finest silk impaled
clinging to anything
that fame availed
high above the
common man I sailed
thinking that I’d at
long last prevailed.

Unaware of what
such flights unveil
Toxic perfumes
Fame exudes inhaled
all my trains of thought
became derailed,
till I tumbled free
with anguished wails,
fingernails on
blackboards as I flailed
Back to my cross of
lost dreams where I was nailed.
despairing I had failed.

Fame is a bitch
she’s a scratch
you can’t itch
she’s that dream
you can’t ditch,
till you’re pitched
into your grave.

Fame can only bring glory
that’s at best transitory
it’s your hope's crematory
beware of its purgatory

Ahhhhh.....

But I’ve had loves
sweetest whispers
caressing my hungry ears,
on my pinnacles of fame
and in my darkest of years

Fame's love is just lust
shots of whiskey and beers
till it leaves you hungover
Hell's you’ll never revere

But I’ve reached a conclusion
I’ve thought out perfectly clear,
only true love’s worth chasing
the rest is sorrow and tears.

So why not chase the fame
of simply sharing your name
not with the masses
but one lovely girl,
enjoy each note of her sighs
to which you’ll soon harmonize
basking in love’s sweetest prize
and always left satisfied
without the shame of lost fame
wrecking your world.
wrecking your world.
