Happy people tend
to drive me nuts
Always eating prime rib
while I chew on cold cuts
smoking top dollar blunts
while I’m suck gutter butts
wearing great big smiles
while I’ve got
frowns on my mug
Happy people they always
have a whole lot of bucks
Happy People never
seem to notice my endless grief
or my sign on the street
begging them for relief
It seems like most happy
folks have a belief
that I should get a job
and start earning my keep
earning your keep....man
But my clothes are all ragged
but I don’t even drink
I’ve never done drugs
like most happy folks think
I live in a box
from a fridge someone bought
that’s now filled up with steaks
cold ice cream and pork chops
my kitchen’s a dumpster
filled with leftover slop
and sometimes
I get caught there
and busted by cops
I have no I.D.
I’ve not bathed in ten weeks
My beard is all scraggly
I’ve lost my front teeth
My hair is a mess
and I won’t pass the test
of someone looking to hire me
there is no success
when your down in the dirt
all employers are curt
they look at me like I’m crazy
or some kind of pervert
oh, yeah....Oh, man
I used to have money
and I was happy too
but my bills got to high
and my good life was through
couldn’t work cause you see
I had P.T.S.D.
from my time spent in combat
coming back to haunt me
so I ended up homeless
lost my wife and my kids
lost my car and my life
I’ve been down on the skids
far too long to go back
to a most happy place
so I set and I beg
but for that fact
I am pegged
as a bum whose just lazy
just another bad egg
we’re not boozers or druggies
their just folks left downtrodden
or disabled like me
one more vet who's forgotten
who's forgtten!
So if you pass me by
why not try being donors
I don’t need much from you
Just bring me your leftovers
from that big fancy meal
with too much left to eat
make me a happy person
with some veggies and meat
I will thank you profusely
I might just dance down the street
nourishments all I need
at least for today
and so much
truly good food
is just thrown away
Then walk on being happy
knowing I’m happy too
even though I’ve got nothing
come tomorrow it’s true
I will be oh, so gracious
