amazingly marvelous

we breathlessly knew
that we were meant to be

would so quickly eclipse
any pleasure that I’d ever known
you brought a high state of bliss
when you were absent I’d miss

our relation-ship was a yacht
after I’d been so used to canoes

too many others around us

thought we tried to endure

falling to new love’s lures.
As we chose to retire
love that had lost it’s fire
absent of all desire
I guess we became tired
as our marvelous love
and our breathtaking kisses
were now not meant to be...
Your absence went unnoticed
for I was only focused
on the new love I’d found
now that you weren’t around.
Until one day I realized
as I thought back on you
that our most perfect love
had become so unglued
and had suddenly grew
into something more common
like everything else
and it made me feel blue.
Deep inside of myself
cause we’d squandered a love
that most folks never knew
so precious and rare
that was no longer there
and I wept for you loss
just because I once cared
knowing we’d paid a cost
for that love that we’d shared
that could not be repaired.

with all the wonders we knew
