"Old Haunts."

I heard the church bells ring

much like the day we got married

Reviving memories I'd buried

leaving me something to do....

So I went back to the threshold

where I'd carried you

into our house of love,

back when our love was new

I sat and gazed at the haven

where we'd dwelt awhile

blurred by the tears from my

remembering your eager smile....

Chorus

To begin a new life

as my beautiful wife

sharing the sweet delights

only true love ignites.

And I could picture each room

through time's most infinite gloom

that left a lonely Ex-Groom

wishing we'd turned out right....

Cause I was back in town

just kind of cruising around

down all our old memory lanes

and as I passed the courthouse

I could still hear that gavel

pounding out my long lost pain....

When the judges decree

took you away from me.

Stealing all of the dreams

I'd ever hoped to see

again I saw your face

as sad as it could be

when you walked

away from me

in a long, black dress

on that mournful day

facing what was left

with no eagerness...

Chorus-

To become my ex-wife

for the rest of my life

spending my days and nights

in that lonely plight

only divorce can ignite.

And I could picture one buffoon

through times infinite gloom

a lonely Ex-Groom

still wishing.......

we had turned out right....

Then I headed out

on the road again

putting the pedal to the metal

fleeing our way back whens...

To join all the lanes

filled up with lonely men

facing roads that couldn't

ever take them back again,

except to their dead ends......

except to their dead ends......
