In this slow burn of oxygen
that I inhale and exhale
and sometimes want to stop
i realize the cost that it
would bring upon me
and so I persevere........
The razor calls me off to shave
a few years from my life,
sharp tongued it offers me release
while it quibbles with the knife
The noose is just a nuisance
knotted stomach...knotted rope,
perhaps I'll pull a Winehouse
drowning in some booze and dope.
Chorus- But air is such a precious thing
sucked in and out each day,
even gas stations they make me pay
for the Goodyears I'll deflate
in my flights across freeways.
Breathe in, then pause and savor it
breathe out... a tedious task,
when my face is stretched in painted smiles,
to hide the apathy I mask. verse 2-
The lyrics offer me escape
just a temporary measure,
and over them the sad notes drape,
gracing music not yet treasured.
The strings on my piano scream
as callouses press hard,
to my capture all the misery
of this modern, lonely bard.
Chorus- But music's such a precious gift
wailed in and out each day,
it gives the most depressed a lift,
yet still it's makers pay....
by baring each raw feeling,
opening doorways to the heart...
till fame slips past revealing
you've not yet mastered the art.
Sweet love you thought eternal,
is infernal it can burn,
often shallow and external,
long before the lessons learned.
This too shall pass....
though the journey's long
I'm just a passenger who waits
for that right exit,
not the one that's wrong,
as I head for heaven's gates.
Breathe in again and savor it
breathe out..... a tedious chore,
but that great song waits around the bend,
one I'll chase forevermore.
It's only bridges burning
I can't let it get me down,
clinging tightly to hopes yearning,
so I guess I'll stick around.
