The open road
the distant clouds
my stepping stones
by-Ingvar Tautra
The call of fame
carries the blame
so I’m alone.
by Matthew F. Blowers III
The gears all packed
as the roadies nap
and we head on
down the road
in our huge R.V.
all sprawled casually
enjoying a long
and quiet mode
cause our ears all ring
from the huge amping
of the music
that we bring
so we all cool down
till we reach
the next town
to recreate the sounds
that we play and sing
that makes our
souls take wings
I can still see
all the faces
in so many places
gazing up at me
in my memories
visions of the crowds
that our band left wowed
when our gigs are done
we all feel damned proud
I wanted to do this
since I was a child
back when Rock-and-Roll
always made me smile
and hey.look at me now.
I should grab some rest
but I’m not ready yet
I’ve got some lyrics
bouncing around
my head
bout a girl I knew
who once made me blue
I wonder what she thinks
when she sees just who
her old boyfriend has become
a famous lead singer
whose now number one
does my music bring her
tears for all that we
both left undone.
You can’t go back
this life moves so fast
30 gigs a year
makes it very clear
your too busy to
be living in the past
the dies been cast
some loves never last
and if I see her again
she would never ask
if I remember when
she was my girl
in her mind I own
the whole damn world
with plenty of groupies
prettier then she
could ever be….
but she’d be wrong you see
cause being on the road
is so lonely
and any love I know
comes temporarily
there’s no
time to stick
around and see
if it’s true enough
to satisfy me
or strong enough
to make me quit
my chasing fame
and the next hit
distance kills most
all relationships
and the band is my
truest friendship
so I grab some beers
and a paper pad
and I write a song
that makes me sad
till the buzz kicks in
turning frowns to grins
as the next town
comes around again
where I’ll take that stage
as the latest rage
as I turn the page
on what once was
I really don’t have
any choice because
my love life’s lived
vicariously
with all the groupies
who just want to be
my next one night stand
that guy in the band
but they never see
inside of me
the emptiness that
this life bleeds
my muse demanding
that I feed
on my misery
voraciously.
Two of the other guys
they both have wives
but their marriages
barely survive
I want more than just
long distant lust
it puts a damper
on the trust
of any girl I’d truly love
and that’s not kind
to either one of us.
So I lay back down
in my traveling bed
with loveless dreams
flowing in my head
It’s the life I know
cause every show
must go on’
in every place I’m led
I’ve got deadlines
and commitments
my whole life’s an
endless shipment
of my talent and equipment
but music brought my
life enrichment
it’s in no way insufficient
except for stationary love
the kind I’m
always dreaming of……..
The open road
the distant clouds
my stepping stones
The call of fame
carries the blame
so I’m alone………..
