We all reach turning
points in our life
when we must backtrack
to avoid running
smack dab into a place
that we don’t want to be
a person we don’t want to see
or we start spinning
left and spinning right
just to get ourselves free
life is a journey that
comes with detours
the endless slams of
opening doors,
a past ghost back
to haunt you
from long before
sometimes we reach
turning points,
just pacing the floor....
Love is the main cause
for most turning points
when someone you cherish
gets their noise out of joint
there are so many reasons
why love disappoints
so you just turn away
find someone else to anoint
your heart and soul
with a new love to hold.

a huge burden to bear
doing work that you know
doesn’t offer a prayer
of a raise or promotions
cause the boss man don’t share
so you find your self turning
to get out of there
Decisions are a carousel
where you’re forced to chose
the horse that you’ll ride off on
will you win, will you lose,
in trying to reach that brass ring
that can chase way your blues
while folks all around you
are grabbing for it too
Turning points are the choices
in life that you saddle
grabbing on to the stir ups
and yelling “Skeedaddle.”
in a race with huge herds
of others choices you battle
where you’ll reach great success
on the beast that you straddle
or you’ll fall from your perch
with your hopes and dreams rattled

So give your turning points
some very heavy thought,
you can plod on straight ahead
in the same old slot
till your final turning point
drops you in your grave plot
or you can twist way and
take your best shot
which can lead you to
what you’ve always sought.
