Winter mimes loneliness
in its stark, white, frigid essence
that no one wants to embrace
all who are warm turn cold
shoulders to its arrival.
And so it sheds icicle tears
and howls in the wee hours
of the night.....
Like so many widows and widowers
and those who never really knew love
no one goes out when the winter
is raging against the emptiness
its ugliness created
It forces all of Nature's living
things into hibernation
it silences the world under
white blankets that cover
what no longer grows
And while lovers snuggle
under quilted bliss those
who live alone gaze out
frosted windows and mourn
what they miss .......
Sometimes when they are
feeling really loveless
they grace the backs of
their hands with a
long, soul kiss and
picture someone they
used to love as
their minds drifts
deeper than the
January accumulations
that lined the roads they don't
travel on much anymore
It freezes times that most folks
wish would just hurry on by
it makes hearts left cold
much colder slowing each beat
to a bland lub-dub, lub-dub
with no warm bodies or lips
to make their pulses race faster
winter makes loneliness a bastard
Sometimes alcohol cuts the chill
or a couple of sleeping pills
but they still wake up alone
in their empty homes with
nobody to wish good morning to
and the only thing that adds
sparkle to their lives is the sun
shining diamond like
on the snow outside....
Winter does go away and
loneliness can go away too
if the lonely can shed their blues
and put on some shoes
to find places where other
lonely souls will go to
and then maybe meet a few
There is really nothing else to do
but commiserate with others like you
and put a warm thaw in the
winters of your souls
Or find peace in the memories
of those that you've lost
realizing that all love will
come with a cost and it will be...
Loneliness miming winter
when the loves that we sought
are long gone and forgot
long gone and forgot
as we join the have nots........
