Arnold Hano authored A Day in the Bleachers which is considered one of the greatest nonfiction baseball books ever written . Inning by inning, it chronicles game 1 of the 1954 World Series, He took readers into the stands in order to view the game from the perspective of the ordinary fans. He describes the most famous catch in baseball history — Willie Mays’ over-the-shoulder steal of Vic Wertz’s fly ball to the Polo Grounds’ deep center field that, as well as capturing the bleacher fans’ thrill when Dusty Rhodes hit the game-winning pinch-hit home run in the 10th inning.Although A Day in the Bleachers is his best-known work, he was for five decades one of America’s preeminent sportswriters as well as reporting on social and political events of the second half of the 20th century. His life is the subject of a great new documentary A Century in the Bleachers’ Mark and AJ welcome filmmaker Jon Leonoudakis and Arnold Hano to the show to talk about the film and Arnold's life.
