This TonePoem is based on a 1977 Mae Brussell radio broadcast, The Death Of Freddie Prinze, Deaths Of Rock Musicians (2-21-77).
In short she covers the idea that big name sixties rock stars where assassinated because they spoke out against the war as well as other anti-fascist government rants. I do not agree -totally- with Mae Brussell, for instance, Burroughs said alot and then more about militants, the industrial military bug hive, control, ignorance, and so on, than all the ones Mae Brussell lists. Guilt kills Conscience in all -cabals- and that makes idiots of us all, like psychic fluoride. Seems something Burroughs understood.
Burroughs, btw, was not, so far as I know, assassinated. He certainly lived to be very old and definitely got alot published, in spite of fundamentalist dead heads and other assorted community protectors threatening him to not speak his mind. I would imagine he would view today's university elect as not capable of critical thought, but only assassinating the point of view that doesn't stroke their idiot ass. Certainly it often seems that way to me, and hope it does to you too? Which brings me to an important point... if your art has substance and is critical then care, we are in a perpetually warring state, folks are anxious, guilt riddled, controlling and needing something to save them, and also needing something to blame, and focus that pent up murderous rage on. Freedom of speech is important, but this is a point in time when care and heads up is best.
