Description

Monique Belier (1971) is a Dutch visual artist who recently graduated from the Photo Academy in Amsterdam (May 2023). Before deciding to make a career switch, she worked for 20 years as an entrepreneur, teacher, and creator in the dance world.

Her work revolves around the themes of humans, the body, and the mind. Her graduation project, the photo-artist book titled ‘Where the Spirit Meets the Bone,’ has found its way to readers and bookshops in several countries, including the Photography museum ‘Huis Marseille’ in Amsterdam. Moreover, her book was selected for exhibition at the OFF Bratislava 2023 photo festival. And she was selected by GUP, as new Fresh Eyes International talent 2023.

During her time as a student, she had the opportunity to create a magazine named ‘Small Town Boy,’ which found its place in various newspapers, including NRC. The attention her work received led to a special invitation from 'Nieuw Amsterdam' at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, where she had the opportunity to discuss her project.

In addition to her role as a photographer, she also embraces writing as a creative outlet. She creates stories and portraits for a local newspaper, and two of her short stories have been published in separate collections of short stories.

Her artistic journey is a reflection of her deep passion for the language of movement, capturing the human body, and exploring the intersection between art and life.
