Description

Freelance photographer, teacher and disseminator of contemporary photography Sergio Castañeira trained in different workshops organised by the University of Cádiz. Then, he continued his training in Seville, studying photographic language and creation at the El Fotómata school and gallery. He also took an expert photojournalism and documentary photography course at the Faculty of Information Sciences in Seville. He has also attended workshops with photographers such as Michael Ackerman, Ricky Dávila, José Manuel Navia, David Jiménez and Anders Petersen.
His photographic work moves within the subjective documentary style, using tools such as the personal and poetic diary to question the world around him.

His work has been exhibited in different photography festivals such as Sevilla Foto, Zaragoza Foto, Jornadas fotográficas de Aracena, Festival Foco Norte, Barco da Prata (Lisbon), Scan Festival Tarragona, ICV Visual Lab (Bristol), Festival Pa-ta-ta or Photocopyclub (London).

He has also had solo exhibitions at Sala la Polaroid, La Kursala, CICUS Sevilla and UFCA Algeciras, among others. And in group exhibitions, including the Fotopress Scholarship of La Caixa with the collective El Cíclope Mecánico, with exhibitions at the CaixaForum in Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza.
He is the author of the photobooks Ciudad Sur (La Kursala 55, University of Cádiz), El Frente, with El Cíclope Mecánico (Ediciones Anómalas, 2014) and Limbo (Ediciones Anómalas, 2023).

His work on the blog El Patio del Diablo, which is dedicated to the dissemination of auteur photography, stands out as curatorial work.
