"Is this what we would expect, to see Jesus floating away into the clouds? How weird is this? But I think it's very hard to know, especially when we're given two different stories of the Ascension. Who's right? John, or Luke? How do you decide that? But what if the Ascension was much more mysterious, and the only way to get at it is give it a very physical experience and power," Father Perry tells us for the 27th episode of our Sunday Homilies podcast. "What John gives to us as a gift in his presentation of the Ascension — with all the questions, and the doubts, and the fears, and the grief — is part of what I think we're supposed to experience. Maybe to get the whole pictures, we have to feel an absence of Christ, but also feel that it is totally natural and normal."
