The year was 2006 and I'd just received a pair of Technics 1210MK5's and an Allen & Heath Xone62 for my 21st birthday - still to this day one of the greatest and most life-changing gifts I've ever had the honour of being gifted.
After winning a local DJ compeition, I'd secured my very first DJ residency at Mint nightclub in Brighton where I was tasked with playing commercial house and electro-house every Saturday night to unappreciative drunken locals. My entire earnings went straight back into buying vinyl - but, only buying the music that I held a close affinity towards; progressive house, breaks, prog trance, dnb and everything else in-between.
During that time, all that mattered was buying and playing vinyl, honing my DJing skills, clubbing, partying and then at very last, my uni degree. With the view to one day be allowed to play MY kind of music in nightclub land. My only real worries back then were having to hunt down the latest bangers on wax, and occasionally submitting my uni homework late.
This mix eventuated during a bedroom recording session around 2006. Recorded on my iRiver H320 (the BEST MP3 player to ever have graced the world), 100% vinyl in one take, on the setup pictured in the cover art.
Also, I have no idea why I named it "Amplified", but I'm sticking with it.
Tunes from Luke Chable, D-Nox & Beckers, Pryda, Leama and Moore, Filterheadz, Jaytech, Lustral, Gabriel & Dresden plus many more.
Hope you enjoy it!
