5 Mag's RISE series returns this week with a new mix from Brooklyn-based DJ @theelectrocherry.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Electro Cherry draws inspiration from underground DJs and producers in Berlin, Detroit, and Brooklyn Electro Cherry mixes underground minimal tech and deep house that keeps the crowd moving all night.
Electro Cherry is dedicated to uplifting women, non-binary, and trans DJs and producers in the electronic music scene. When she isn’t spinning at your favorite club you can find her working with Support Women DJs. Support Women DJs is a movement for gender equity in the EDM industry. Based in NYC, we host raves with all-women lineups and foster a queer-inclusive community of DJs & Supporters.
"Rachel Brosman, founder of Support Women DJs, and I decided to start hosting a monthly open decks event at Hell Phone, a woman-owned bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn," she says. "We recognized the need for women, non-binary, and trans DJs to have a safe space to practice, which inspired us to create this event. Through this event, we have met amazing DJs at all levels. Rachel has even booked some of them for her other events because of these open decks!"
