Populism has become one of the buzzwords of contemporary political discourse. But what does the term 'populism' actually mean? In this episode, Juliette Marchant talks to Professor Wojciech Sadurski about the diversity and plurality of populism and the threat that right-wing populism poses to democracy - focussing on what populists do, rather than what they say.

Wojciech Sadurski is Challis Professor in Jurisprudence. He also holds a position of Professor in the Centre for Europe in the University of Warsaw, and was visiting professor at Yale Law School, NYU Law School, Rutgers University department of Politics, Fordham Law School, Cardozo Law School and Saint Louis University School of Law (all in the United States) as well as in University of Parma Faculty of Law and University of Trento Faculty of Law (both in Italy), and in National University of Singapore School of Law. He has written extensively on the philosophy of law, political philosophy, EU law, and comparative constitutional law. His most recent books include “Poland’s Constitutional Breakdown” (OUP 2019), “A Pandemic of Populists” (CUP 2022), and “Constitutional Public Reason” (OUP 2023).
