John the Baptist initially seems like a lonely guy. But he reminds the crowds that gather around him that they are spiritually lonely without someone who can repair their relationship with God and bring them back into friendship with their creator. Christmas can be a lonely season, but it is also the season in which we get to remember that Jesus was born to be our friend. Christmas rescues us out of loneliness and brings us into friendship with God.
