This episode of Strength in the Midst of Change features Darlena York, an undergraduate student in political science and Afro-American and African studies, parliamentarian for the National Pan-Hellenic Council, president of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Iota Psi Chapter, and secretary of the U-M NAACP chapter. Darlena was recently featured as a panelist in the U-M Town Hall Constructive Conversations for Societal Change. Darlena shares her insights about being confronted with racial tensions during her freshman year at U-M and how she used her passion for social justice to bring awareness and make an impact. She also explains the importance of a simple tool like Google in furthering your learning about racism and why it's critical to understand that Black people are not monolithic.
