So, the age old question - what is the meaning of love? Let's put a new twist on it, and get some awesome new insights into love, that we can apply in our daily lives in all of our relaionships, with our spouses, children, our friends, and also Hashem (God). In this inspiring lecture at Kehilas Yeshorim in Monsey, New York, Rav Dror Moshe Cassouto shares some ancient Jewish wisdom on real love. And from our perception of love in this world, and how we react to it as humans, form that we can learn about how God loves, and how we should love God. God "created man in his image". God created us to be like Him in a way. Which means that we can look at how he created us, and how we are, and learn about him from that. "From my flesh I will see God" said King David. It is so important for us to love God, to wok on our desire to give to him, and to recieve from him, and to make him a part of our lives. God needs our love. Of course God is a whole unique infinite being, but to a certain extent God NEEDS our love. He is a father, he is our father, and there is nothing more painful than for a father to not have a relaionship with his children! He sits and cries that he hid himself and that we stopped searching for Him! He regrets on the exile and all of the suffering he us though. God needs out love. And the most living thing we can do for him is to bring his children back. To spread the light of faith and emunah in the world. To let his children know about him. To make his children love Him again. If you care about the father, so you care about his children also. Unity. Showing unity is showing love for God. Making peace is showing love for God. We need to treat Hashem like another one of our relationships, just like we have a relationship with our spouse, and a relationship with our children, so too to we need to have a realtionship with God, that is built on love, conversation, time, effort, devotion, and commitment. From our relationships with people we can learn how to have a relationship with God. Shalom Bayit (peace in the Home) with the Shechina (divine spirit). Divine love is not kabbalah, it's not a secret kabbalistic incantation, it is simple kindness and compassion.
