When we come in the beginning before Hashem to repent on our misdeeds we open up and put all our cards on the table.
It is very embarrassing to lay it all out before the Creator and to ask for forgiveness.
But that is exactly how we must feel when we come before Hashem in Teshuva we must feel legitimately embarrassed and ashamed for having forgotten him so many times over and over again.
