Description

There is perhaps no greater illustration of the struggle between the two seeds of Genesis 3:15 than that of the conflict between David and Saul. God gave both men great privilege and responsibility. Yet Saul was plagued with jealousy and ambition and failed to enjoy the blessings of God because he lusted for more. Though he sometimes responded to his failures with emotional regrets, such regret was short-lived. Just when we think Saul is turning a spiritual corner, he sets his heart on the survival of number one - himself. The life of Saul was on a divine collision course with the plans of God. And soon God will root out the poisonous weed, cut it down and burn it up. The final chapters of 1 Samuel tell this sad story of two desperate men, only one will survive. Though David is God’s anointed, he often fails to trust His God with his future. In this passage, we see David in a crisis of faith and instead of appealing to the Lord for wisdom, “he thinks to himself…” a clear indication that he was his own counselor, not God. The circumstances were bleak and David concluded that God could not be provided to trust for his needs or the needs of his men. And yet, God calls David a man after His own heart!
