Description

Mention David and we typically think one of two things: David and Goliath or David and Bathsheba. God records tremendous detail in the story of David and Bathsheba - and each one deserves our attention. In this message, Dr. Betters unpacks each of those details and helps us see how each one has an important life message for us. Why is this story of David’s fall so important for us to understand? For starters, the most vulnerable time for moral failure in our spiritual journey is right on the heels of, or in the wake of some great spiritual victory. David’s story reminds us that just when we think we are strong, we must be on guard. David deserved some time off. Right? While his army fought, David lounged. Moral failure is always imminent when we fail to redeem the time. In this message, Dr. Betters turns our attention to Proverbs that warn us to be diligent as well as to learn from the field of the sluggard (Proverbs 12:24, Proverbs 24:30-31). In 2 Samuel 11:3-5, we see David begin to slide down a slippery slope and once he starts, there is no stopping as he ends up in a pit of despair, guilt, grief and nowhere to turn but to the Lord. David and Bathsheba. A story of great sorrow but also great grace.
