The story of how Nathan confronted David is one of the most profound “man to man” moments in the Old Testament. In this passage Dr. Betters points out clear, practical principles for confronting a “fallen brother,” the first of which is “the Lord must drive the impulse to confront another person who is in sin.”
The timing must be right and Spirit-directed. Two years had passed before the Lord directed Nathan to confront David. By then, David’s heart carried a heavy load of guilt and his sin had not satisfied his hunger for happiness. God could have gotten David’s attention with a marauding army, but instead, with great grace, He sends the prophet Nathan, whose words, “Thou art the man!” will forever ring with conviction and grace.
